Southwest Montessori Academy’s Admissions process is designed to assist families in gaining a deeper understanding of Montessori education. At our core, we are committed to family-centered Montessori education and welcome all students, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religious affiliation, national origin, family structure, or any other characteristic. We trust that you will find Southwest Montessori Academy a warm and inclusive learning community. With this in mind, preference in admissions is given to returning students and their siblings. Once these families have been given a chance to enroll, applications are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The steps in our Admissions process include:
Step 1: Parent Visit
The first step in our enrollment process is for you as the parents to either attend an Open House or come for a scheduled tour. Parents must tour the school and meet with a member of the SMA admission team. It is important to know our values, philosophy, and methods in educating children and see how they align with the values and practices of your family. The scheduled tour also allows the family to observe classroom dynamics and activities. This allows prospective parents the opportunity to share information regarding your child’s development, personality, interests and abilities ensuring a strong foundation for a partnership between themselves and Southwest Montessori Academy.
Step 2: Complete an Admissions Application
We encourage your family to discuss whether Montessori education and Southwest Montessori Academy are the right fit for you and your child. If so, complete the Admissions Application and submit it as soon as possible after the parent visit.
Step 3: Student Classroom Visits
Student visit appointments will be arranged once the Admissions Application is received by Southwest Montessori Academy. Children will explore the Montessori classroom materials with the guidance of a Montessori teacher and get a chance to meet some of our students. All children will be informally assessed by a Montessori teacher as a part of the admissions process.
Step 4: Admissions Decision
Southwest Montessori Academy will e-mail or mail the admissions decision along with the tuition agreement within 24-48 hours after the Student Classroom Visit is completed. Once accepted, the parents will be required to pay an enrollment fee of $200 and a deposit of half-month’s tuition that will go toward the last month of the academic school year’s enrollment. No student is considered enrolled at Southwest Montessori Academy until the deposit and tuition agreement are signed and received. If a student is placed in the waiting list, the family will be notified by phone when a space becomes available. The admission offer by Southwest Montessori Academy is valid for two weeks from the date of the offer of admission.
