Academic V.S. Free Play

There seems to be a plethora of information aimed at parents regarding regarding the way Early Childhood Education “should be”.  Some of this information points to providing children with unlimited free play as this will enhance social-emotional skills and that they will have enough time for the remainder of their educational years with little to no freedom. Other sources promote early reading, writing and math skills and point to long-term academic success. Montessori education and philosophy balance both a child’s need for free play and their natural desire to learn. This article is spot on about how the Montessori classroom meets both in the middle.
